  10. Sidney Mason, obituary, Haverhill Evening Gazette, 1911 - Print, Photomechanical

    Sidney Mason was the first African American firefighter in Haverhill. He was born in Virginia to enslaved parents, Charles and Delia Mason, and came to Bradford around 1871. He served as a police officer and fireman in Bradford and Haverhill, and after he retired, as a coachman. This photomechanical print of a photograph appeared in the center of his obituary column March 8, 1911 in the Haverhill Evening Gazette; he passed at the age of about 60....
