Description |
Haverhill Tercentenary Parade, men in costume marching by the First Baptist Church, Main Street, Haverhill, 1940. Four men dressed in costume representing Native American clothing with feather headdresses are leading the group, followed by two men playing drums and one man wearing a bandage around his head, probably representing the Archibald Willard painting "Spirit of '76." These men and most of the men marching behind them dressed as soldiers or militiamen in American Revolution era military costumes. Some of the men toward the rear are also wearing Native American costumes with feather headdresses, and some are without headdresses. The groups are not identified. Inscription on verso: "Photo by John G. Blacklock / Tercentenary Parade Main St. in front of First Baptist Church / June 29, 1941 [sic 1940]." Photo is 20 x 25 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
