Duston Boulder, Monument Street, Haverhill. Side view, with Hannah Duston School on the right, trees in the background. Inscription on verso: "Photo by Gazette photographer Feb. 26, 1949 / Boulder set on site of Duston/Dustin homestead October 15, 1908." Affixed to verso below is a newsclipping from an unidentified publication (probably the Haverhill Gazette): "Stone monument, on Monument st., near the Hannah Duston school, which can be seen at the lower right. This huge boulder is part of the city's stone homage to Hannah Duston. The small marker in the front carries this inscription - 'Hannah Dustan, March 30, 1697,' and her baby's name, 'Martha.' The front of the stone reads 'Thomas Dustan.'" The school spells the name Dustin, our records and the statue in G.A.R. Park spell the name Duston. Photo is 23 x 18 cm mounted on cardboard 36 x 26 cm. |
