Description |
City Hospital, Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill. Three stories, clapboard, front porch, portico with small balcony on second floor, mansard roof, dormers, quoins, two story extension in the rear. The hospital was renamed from City Hospital to Hale Hospital in 1898; in 1901 the new Hale Hospital was opened on Buttonwoods Avenue. The building was named City Hospital 1887-1897. Formerly Midlake Farm, home of Franklin Brickett, architect Albert C. Heath. Inscription on verso: "Old Hale Hospital Kenoza Ave / 1897 / Franklin Brickett House / Kenoza Avenue / Built by Franklin Brickett about 1873 / later owned by John E. Gale - hence Gale Avenue / Sold to James H. Carleton / Given to City of Haverhill for hospital." Photo is 15 x 20 cm mounted on chipped cardboard 26 x 30 cm. |
