8th Regiment, Infantry, Company F, parade, Washington Street, Haverhill, 1898. The photograph has been printed with the glass negative reversed laterally. The second image is a reversed image of the original shows the scene as it was, with the cracked glass visible on the right. Soldiers marching on the cobbled street. Signs and storefronts visible: Hayward Hardware; Nichols the Printer; Chase Book Binders; Hotel Webster. Spectators on both sides of the street, some with American flags. Washington Square in the background. Inscription on verso: "Co. F 8th regt enroute to 'Camp Dewey.' / So. Framingham, Mass. May 5, 1898, Washington St? in reverse / Major [W. H.] Thomas leading band." Photo is 13 x 17 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
