James Gale. Vignetted portrait, head and shoulders, facing three-quarter left. He has dark hair and is wearing a suit, shirt and cravat. Printed caption below: "James Gale was born April 19, 1791. He was elected Treasurer and Secretary of the Haverhill Savings Bank January 18, 1832, serving until September 28, 1866, at which time he resigned the office. He was Town Treasurer and Clerk from 1832 to 1836. He was Cashier of the Haverhill Bank from 1836 to 1852. He was President of the Essex National Bank from 1852 to 1871. He died March 17, 1871." Black and white photomechanical print of a painting, from an unidentified publication. Inscription on verso: "Original owned by Austin Porter Nichols II 8 Reef Rd of Cape Elizabeth 1999."
