Description |
Parade for 8th Regiment, Company F, Infantry, in Haverhill on their way to camp in South Framingham, May 5, 1898. Main Street, City Hall and City Hall Park, other multistory brick buildings in the background, with onlookers on the sidewalk, in the street and in windows. Left to right in parade: fife and drum marching band, soldiers in uniforms with rifles. A hay wagon, horses and carriages and a streetcar are behind them. Visible near the sidewalk is the wagon or booth of H. C. Tanner, Caterer. American flags in windows and suspended over the sidewalk. Storefronts and signs legible, left to right: J. N. Willett & Son; Perkins the Tailor; C. W. Garland, Grocer; Shoe Store; Hardware (with sign for Bicycles). Streetcar and trolley tracks in the street. Inscription on verso: "Co. F. 8th regt. / May 5, 1898 / Enroute for / 'Camp Dewey' / So. Framingham / Mass. / Main St Haverhill Mass." Pasted to verso is a later caption: "Framingham Bound - With the hands on the big clock atop City Hall showing 9:10 a.m., Company F swings down Main st. toward the depot, where they boarded a train for Camp Dewey, South Framingham.
