Description |
Alfred A. Ordway House, 239 South Main Street, Bradford, Haverhill. Formerly no. 121 South Main Street. Built circa 1831 as a commercial venture for William Nelson Kimball, Brown & Kimball, shoe shop and general store on street level with living quarters and shoe manufacturing above. Alfred A. Ordway, a prominent shoe industry baron, bought the left half in 1880 and lived there until his death. Four stories, brick, gable roof, two entrances at front center. Tree in front partially obscuring the view; view of front and left sides. Fence in front by the sidewalk. Intersection with South Elm Street on the left, another house on the right. Former residents: G. K. Montgomery (1849 -), John Davis, J. Kimball Farrar. Trolley tracks in the street. Inscription on verso: "Alfred A. Ordway / Main St Bradford / G. W. W. Bartlett / 1919."
