Description |
Horatio Pearl House, 259 South Main Street, Bradford, Haverhill. Three stories, clapboard, gable roof, dark shutters. Built 1836. Later the Bradford Branch Library, acquired 1934. This photo has an inscription dating it c.1938, but there is no library sign visible. A man is standing on the front porch, and two women, one holding what looks like a book, are walking past on the sidewalk. Large tree on the corner. Inscription on verso: "Horacio [sic] Pearl House Photo c. 1938 / Built 1836 by Isaac Morse as a double house. Samuel F. Merrill purchased the left side in Apr. 1837. In Oct. 1837 Isaac Morse sold the right half to Wm Hall for $1000. Samuel F. Merrill was a housewright of Newmarket, N.H., he sold his left side to Aaron P. Heath in 1842 for $1000. Horacio Pearl (1819- ) came from Boxford to Bradford in 1848. His descendants living here until 1934. It was then acquired for Bradford Branch Library." Photo is 8 x 14 cm mounted in paper mat card with printed borders, 14 x 19 cm. |
