Description |
Butters House, 209 Main Street, Haverhill. Formerly no. 83 Main. Two stories plus attic, hip roof with flat attic on top. Vines growing on the front of the house. View of front and right sides. First Baptist Church on the left. Trolley tracks in the street. The house, known as the Butters House, was bought in 1843 by Robert G. Walker from Frederick P. Chase, a physician in Kingston, N.H. Robert G. Walker was the father of Mrs. Charles Butters. The house was moved 9 miles by Joseph Bunker, with 24 yoke of oxen. The house was cut in halves, with the very large barn, taking four trips to bring it to Haverhill. Inscription on verso: "G. W. W. Bartlett / 1919 / R. G. Walker Butters / Main St. / Brought from Kingston, N.H. in 1843. 24 yoke of oxen used in moving it." This image has been cropped; see glass negative HS1.1 Senter G5x7 13-5.
