Two panel cartoon by Ted Miller for Friday Afternoon Club. In the first panel, a young man and woman in 19th century dress are walking on a city street. The caption above reads "When mother was a girl .." The woman says "Oh Henry! This is simply terrible .. it's ten o'clock and that light in the hall means Paw's waitin' up for me!" The man replies "Golly, I didn't reelize it wuz so late!!" In the second panel the caption above reads "But daughter ....!!!!" In this panel a young man and woman in evening dress circa 1941 are standing next to a car, and the man is looking at his watch. The woman says "What's th' rush, handsome ... it's only ten o'clock ... We don't want to be th' first ones there ..." The man replies "Golly! I didn't reelize it wuz so early!" The cartoon is drawn in black ink and wash on heavy paper, creased vertically in half, and is signed in the lower right "Ted Miller." Written in blue ink above the first panel is "1896-1940" and above second panel "1941-1971." On the verso is an inscription: "Ted drew this for Friday Afternoon Club March 1941 - My paper Etiquette Old & New." Housed with Historical Photographic Print Collection. |
