Haverhill during the Flood of 1936. Several people are in rowboats in the flood waters covering Washington Square. "Converted into a Bay State Venice, with water five to seven feet deep, this business section of Haverhill could be traversed only by boat. Abreast of the rowboat at the right of the photo can be seen the traffic sign that was used in the days of the automobile. Globe photo by McCormick." on recto. 1936. |
