Description |
Circus parade, Washington Square, Haverhill. A crowd of pedestrians is on the left watching a group of elephants in a line walking down the cobbled street. There are six elephants visible on the left, with their keepers. They are followed by decorated carriages drawn by teams of four horses each. A patron has identified the circus based on the wagon design as either Barnum & London Circus (if 1883-1887) or Barnum & Bailey Circus (if 1888-1897). There is a lunch room on the left corner, and on the right is a large billboard at street level with a silhouette of a horse, reading "The largest number of votes gets the Saddle Horse / Pollard's Pony [?] / Cures [obscured]." Trolley tracks in the street. Image circa 1896. |
