Brooks Store, Merrimack Street, or F. S. McKenney Store, Main Street, Haverhill. Interior of a store with glass cases on the left and right, a large mirror against the wall on the rear wall, two women standing near the mirror, a man behind the counter on the left and another man behind the counter on the right. Signs reading "Lace Points" and "Shawls" on the walls. Typed label on verso reads: "Mr. Thomas Bailey thinks this is Brooks Store, Merrimack St. and says that Miss Kate Brooks also thinks so. Mr. Ernest H. Messenger identifies it also and says the two men are: Frank Barrows (right) and himself (left). He says the large looking-glass in the rear is now in Leslie's store. / Mr. George W. W. Bartlett thinks it is F. S. McKenney Store, Main St. where he worked. Has shown it to Mr. Harry [H?] Spofford who also worked there and agreed with Mr. Bartlett. The latter thought the women might be Alice Townsend and Rachel Savary, and could not identify the men." Inscription on verso: "Enlarged by W. R. Merryman from stereoscopic photo." Original image probably mid 19th century, this is a later 20th century print. Photo is 13 x 17 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
