Benjamin, Mehetible Wainwright & Mehetible Rolfe triple gravestone with three names, Pentucket Cemetery, Haverhill. Mehetible Wainwright, his wife, was married to John Atwater 1687-1692. She married Benjamin circa 1693. Child Mehetible is on the left, wife Mehetible is in the center, Benjamin is on the right with the top part of the gravestone inscription with his name damaged. They were killed in an Indian raid in Haverhill in 1708. Benjamin Rolfe was the Second Minister of Haverhill. The inscription on the verso is "John Rolfe tombstone at Pentucket Cemetery taken 1920s." Ancestry.com notes that Benjamin and Mehetible had two sons named John, the first b. July 2, 1698 d. Aug 5, 1698 and John (twin of Elizabeth) b. Sept 1, 1699 d. Sept 15, 1699. They may also be buried here. The photographer may be John G. Blacklock. Photo is 8 x 13 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
