Colonel [Jonathan] Tyng's house, Wickasee Island or Tyngs Island, Tyngsboro, Mass. Three stories, clapboard, gambrel roof, four columns forming large portico to roof, where a balcony with railing is at the level of the dormers. Stone retaining wall, other buildings on the right in the background. View of front. Wannalancet monument is in foreground, a large boulder with bronze? plaque, which may read: "In this place lived during his last years, and died in 1696, Wannalancet last Sachem of the Merrimack River Indians, son of Passaconnaway, like his father faithful friend of the early New England Colonials." A sign in front of the monument reads "Col. Jonathan Tyng Estate / Hannah Dustin stopped here on her return from captivity April 1697." Inscription on verso: "Col. Tyng's House where Hannah Duston stayed over night on her way home, at Tyngsboro." House torn down in 1980 for Wang Laboratories. Photo is 19 x 24 cm mounted on card 26 x 33 cm, chipped at top right.
