Description |
Lithograph of Bradford Academy showing the first two Academy buildings and the original boarding house. The first Academy building is on the left, built in 1803, a single-story building with a two-story bell tower at the entrance. The second Academy building is to the right of the first, built in 1841, a large stone building with a gable roof, cupola, and Greek-style columns framing the main entrance. Also called "New Hall" in the late 1800s. The boarding house, Acacia Hall, is at the right edge of the illustration, along the street between it and the Academy buildings; the building is obscured by trees. Several figures are in the street, sidewalks, and near the buildings. Lithograph by B.W. Thayer & Cos of Boston, undated, circa 1850s. Also included are select pages of a Bradford Academy Catalogue, "semi-centennial" edition from 1853, by Metcalf and Company, Printers to the University, Cambridge. |
