Description |
John Ward House, off Water Street, Haverhill. This may be when it was located on Eastern Avenue. One story plus attic, clapboard, gambrel roof with dormer. View of front and left sides. Pile of wood in front. Plaque on left side of door. Inscription on verso: "Photo by A. P. Nichols, July 1891 / John Ward house." Inscription on verso of original print: "The first-frame house built in Haverhill, during the summer of 1640, by the Rev. John Ward. / The Indian name of the town was Pentucket, but changed to Haverhill, in honor of the Rev. Mr. Ward, who was born in Haverhill, Essex Co. England." Buttonwoods Museum states the oldest part of the house was built in 1710. This is a 20th century print. See print HS1.1 Senter HPH 34-467A. Photo is 12 x 17 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
