Description |
Tilton's Tower, Silver Hill, Haverhill. A dynamite charge is going off, with a cloud of sand and debris on the left side the tower, which is breaking apart at the bottom. Grassy hill, a man's shadow in the foreground. The tower has a square base and is tapered toward the top; it is ten stories and has an observation level at the top. It was built in 1887 by John Cooper Tilton of Newbury, and stood until demolished in 1945. Inscription on verso: "Photo by Homer A. Chase / Tilton's Tower being demolished Dec. 24, 1945 / No. 3 Effect of 3rd blast." See also HG5.21 Senter HPH 57-801A, 57-801B, 57-801C, 57-802B, 58-803C.
