Haverhill 250th Anniversary Parade, First Fire Society float, Merrimack Street, Haverhill, 1890. Ten men and two boys are standing on the horse-drawn float, the horse facing left. They are dressed in colonial costumes with tricornes. A crossbar with fire buckets suspended from it is above them, except for one man standing on a raised platform. The signs on the float read "The First Fire Society" and "Organized 1768." In the center is an oval painting depicting a church on fire. The multistory brick building behind them is decorated with patriotic banners. Signs visible, left to right: Law Offices 83; James W. Goodwin, Law Office; Citizens Co-operative Bank; Clothing T[cut off]. A few spectators on the left. Modern reprint, later copy of original photograph, with some ink marking on the area lower right damaged or obscured in original photo. |
