Millstone on Concord Street & Kenoza Avenue, Haverhill. Stone standing vertically surrounded by trees and grass. Photo by Haverhill Gazette photographer, February 26, 1949. Newsclipping affixed on verso: "Trail marker - This monument is standing near Kenoza ave. and Concord st., to mark the trail taken by the Indians after they captured Hannah Duston, but this story is disputed by some, including the famous naturalist, Thoreau, who holds the Indians left by way of Crystal Lake." Inscription with another print in file: "Millstone on Concord St. & Kenoza Ave - to mark old Indian Trail / Erected by Duston Monument Association / Stone given by Geo. M. G. Nichols, originally from Peaslee's Mill - Brandy Brow." Photo is 18 x 23 cm mounted on cardboard 26 x 36 cm. |
