William H. Hawkins (left) and John B. Gordon (right), Fire Chiefs, Haverhill Fire Department, 1923. They are in uniform with hats; Hawkins has dark hair and mustache, and Gordon has white hair and mustache. The men are standing in an office on either side of a desk, with a horseshoe flower wreath with a banner reading "Good Luck." Another bouquet is on the right side of the desk. Probably the retirement of Gordon and the succession of Hawkins as Fire Chief, in the Chief's office, 1923. Gordon was Fire Chief 1890-1891 and 1893-1923; Hawkins was Fire Chief 1923-1933. Photographer printed at bottom of mount: "A. S. McKeen / Haverhill, Mass." Photo is 20 x 25 cm mounted on cardboard 28 x 37 cm. |
