E. J. M. Hale (Ezekiel James Madison Hale). Head and shoulders portrait, facing three-quarter left. Photograph of a painting by Minnie S. Moulton. He has grey hair and beard and is wearing a suit, vest, shirt and tie. Hale was a philanthropist and manufacturer. He initially studied law, but became a textile factory owner, taking over his father's textile mill at the Little River, and building more mills over the years. He donated to and helped found the Haverhill Public Library and Hale Hospital, built churches in Groveland, and gifted the city the statue of Hannah Duston in G. A. R. Park. Inscription on card; "Portrait of E. J. M. Hale - posthumous from photo / painted by Haverhill artist / Mrs. Minnie S. Moulton (wife of Prof Harry D. W.
