Description |
Moses Wingate. Full-length portrait, seated, facing left. He has white hair with long sideburns, and is wearing a dressing gown or coat over darker trousers, with slippers. He has a cane in his hand. There is a staircase leading up in the background, with a door on the right under it. Inscription on verso: "Moses Wingate / born in Bradford Oct. 25, 1769 / See [Haverhill] Gazette Oct. 29, 1869 for account of the celebration of his 100th birthday." Wingate served in many Haverhill town offices, including twenty years as Postmaster, was a Representative in the Massachusetts General Court, and was a delegate in the Massachusetts Constitutional Convention of 1820.
