  19. Essex-Merrimack Drawbridge, Amesbury & Deer Island - Negative, Glass Plate

    Essex-Merrimack Drawbridge, Deer Island, Amesbury. It connects Amesbury to Deer Island; the span from Deer Island to Newburyport is known as the Chain Bridge and is a suspension bridge. In 2012 the Essex-Merrimack Drawbridge was renamed for Newburyport native 1st Lt. Derek S. Hines, who was killed while serving in Afghanistan in 2005. A house can be seen on the road at the right end of the bridge.
