Elmwood Cemetery, Nesbit Monument, Bradford, Haverhill. The monument has a granite shaft or die topped by a 1500 pound granite sphere. The sphere was mounted without a dowel and over time it revolved in its socket on a horizontal plane. In a Haverhill Gazette article June 19, 1931, Oscar Adams, the superintendent of the cemetery, attributed the phenomenon to ice forming and thawing over the winter season and the direction of the sun.
