Description |
Spofford Family Reunion, Spofford House, Georgetown. More than 170 people, men, women and children, are seated on the ground (mostly children), seated on chairs, or standing outside in front of a house, with two people visible in a second floor window. The house is two stories, clapboard, with hip roof, and is decorated with American flags and striped banners on the front; view of front and right sides. A large pine tree is on the left and a split rail fence and another tree are on the right. Below are three inscriptions with arrows identifying three men: left to right: "N. S. Spofford, civil engineer / (standing in line with corner of house) / Herschel Fairbanks / (sitting, with straw hat) / Andrew [J.?] Huntress / (with black derby hat)." N. S. is Nelson S. Spofford, with white beard. Inscription on verso: "Spofford family reunion taken at the old Spofford House near Baldpate about 1887." Photographer's studio blindstamped on mount at bottom left and stamped on verso: "H. P. Macintosh, / Photographer, / Newburyport, Mass. / Children taken instantaneously." Mount and photo are dampstained, photo is faded. Print is 21 x 26 cm mounted on card 26 x 31 cm. |
