Veterans Day, Washington Square, Haverhill, 1972. A large crowd is in the square, on the left are soldiers in uniform, in formation, saluting; a platform with people on it, decorated in patriotic banners, is on the left near the bus station waiting room. Some people are carrying American flags, and two girls are each holding an end of a banner on a pole, the banner reading "Lorraine Post No. 29 / Veterans of Foreign Wars / Haverhill, Mass. / Oldest Post [in] Massachusetts." Inscription on verso: "Annual Veterans Day Exercises / Oct 24 1972 / Washington Square looking westward / Bus waiting room on the left / P.O. out of sight lower left." |
