Moses How House, 78 or 178 Main Street, Haverhill. Two stories plus basement, clapboard with quoins, gable roof with two chimneys, portico, sun room extension on the left. Carriage house on the left in the background. Fence in front at the sidewalk. The house number changed over the course of the house's existence; inscription on front: "John B. Nichols / 78 Main St." On verso: "Built [by?] John Davis [1805-1872?]." Inscription on verso of another copy: "Moses How 1819-1896 House Main St - (formerly 104 Main) / 1853 water St / 1857 104 Main / Built 1855 / Designed by Albert Heath / John Burbank Nichols (78 Main St ) Purchased 24 May 1873 / Shoe Manufacturer / Alice Nichols Gardiner (178 Main St.) / m. 1884 / div. 1894 / Grandville S. A. Gardiner of Providence, R.I. / Jeremiah & Eliza Gardiner / Torn down for Elm Farms Shopping Center c. 1960." Photo probably between 1873 - early 1880s.
