Beach Soap factory, Water & Mill Streets, Haverhill. Six men are seated in or standing next to a Beach Soap Company wagon, four wagons are hitched to horses with the driver in the wagon set, two men standing beside the wagon second from left, without a horse. The factory is a clapboard building with a gable and slant roof, two tall brick chimneys. Another building on the left, may be attached to the carriage house section. The wagons have "Beach Soap Co" painted on the sides. Inscription on verso: "Beach's Soap Factory / Cor Mill St & Water Sts in the 1880s / left to right: 1. [blank] / 2. George Lyman Pulsifer - father of Miss Pauline F. Pulsifer Librarian / 3. [blank] / 4. [blank]." George Lyman Pulsifer - second or third from left. A copy dates this as circa 1875, and company was founded 1826. Photo is 18 x 25 cm mounted on cardboard 20 x 26 cm. |
